(The Herald Post) – Tatyana Ali, best known for her role as Ashley Banks in the hit NBC sitcom ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,’ has come forward to express her support for Will Smith, her on-screen cousin and friend, in the aftermath of the controversial 2022 Oscars incident. Despite the altercation between Smith and comedian Chris Rock, Ali described Smith as a “beautiful person” during an interview at Variety’s Power of Women luncheon in New York.
Ali, 44, chose not to discuss the specifics of the Oscars slap involving Smith, 54, and Rock, 58, explaining that the matter was “hurtful.” Instead, she highlighted the positive impact Smith has made throughout his career, stating, “He’s a beautiful person who has done so much good.”
In the same interview, Ali touched upon her own experiences growing up in the entertainment industry. She credited her parents for keeping her grounded and ensuring her well-being as a child star. According to Ali, her family’s priority was her welfare, rather than her career, which helped her navigate the challenges of the entertainment world.
This statement from Ali comes after Tony Rock, Chris Rock’s brother, claimed that Smith did not apologize to Chris for the Oscars incident. The disagreement between the two sides continues to make headlines, despite Smith’s public apology on Instagram and a video posted in July 2022, in which he stated he was “here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
